YOUTH DAY, AUGUST 12
Evolving Capacities: Redefining Youth Participation:
All UN conferences of the 90’s particularly the ICPD
Programme of Action has agreed that youth participation
is the brain for sustainable development, which centers
around beneficiary and stakeholder mobilization, and
leadership development amongst others. However, this has
not been well interpreted in the context of evolving
capacities which inturn has not provided the right
policy and programmatic environment for the
cognitive-intellectual, equity and rights based
participation of young people. The same in the manner
that is consistent with the evolving capacity of the
individual for increasing autonomy, decision-making
[right sense of judgment], responsibilities etc.
